Nadroga sedition case adjourned to February 2

16 people charged in relation to the alleged formation of a so-called Christian State in the province
The case of the alleged formation of the Nadroga –Navosa sovereign Christian State has been adjourned to fix a trial date.
This was after the 16 people, who have been charged for alleged sedition and inciting communal antagonism in relation to the case appeared at the High Court in Lautoka on Wednesday.
The matter was called to fix a trial date however it was adjourned because both the State and Defence have yet to complete pre-trial conference requirements.
The 16 charged are Ratu Inoke Tasere, Jimi Koroibete, Seru Kunalagi, Adi Cuvu Gavidi Atama, Ulaiasi Rabua Tuivono, Peniasi Naqau, Semi Tanikili, Ratu Osea Bolawaqatabu, Ratu Tevita Khaikhainabokolawale Makutu, Mosese Navaci, Eroni Rikoriko, Alifereti Nakuinivou, Alifereti Gonewai, Raicula Rokovou, Adi Vasemaca Veikunekibulu Gonewai and Jorama Ratulevu.
It is alleged that the group were involved in certain activities against the State in the province last year.
The court heard that on October 10, 2014 the group allegedly did an act with a sedition intention signed document headed ‘Nadroga-Navosa Sovereign Christian State’, with a seditious intention of bringing into hatred or contempt or to excite disaffection against the State.
They are charged with one count, each, of sedition under section 67 (1) (a) and one count, each, of inciting communal antagonism under 65(2) (a) of the Crimes Decree 2009.
Bail has been extended for all accused persons.
The case has been adjourned to February 2, next year to fix a trial date.
