People With Disability Urged To Stand Tall In Society

People who are living with any form of disability should stand tall in society, says University of the South Pacific Labasa Campus director Samuela Bogitini.
Mr Bogitini, who was the chief guest at the International Day of Persons with Disabilities celebration in Labasa on Thursday, encouraged those living with disabilities to participate in various activities implemented through special education.
“We human beings were created in the image of God and no one has any right to judge others and you do not have any right to judge yourself.
“This is because your only measurement is Christ and not any form of measurement created by others and imposed by history,” he said.
Fiji National Council for Disabled Persons executive director Dr Sitiveni Yanuyanutawa said the major focus of the day was practical action to mainstream disability in all aspects of development and to further the participation of persons with disabilities in social life and development.
“We invited people who had visible and invisible disabilities and we had a wonderful day full of sports activities and talanoa sessions.
“The talanoa session was very healthy as people revealed their challenging stories and we found out ways to help and encourage them,” Dr Yanuyanutawa.
He also acknowledged the support from the Labasa Corrections Centre, Fiji Police Force, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation and Republic of Fiji Military Forces.
