The Telecom Fijian Warriors extended training squad has started their preparation for the new season.

The 80-member squad marched into their respective High Performance Unit in their various locations around the country for fitness tests on Thursday.

Warrior’ manager Taniela Domoni said they were having an early start so that they could monitor the players’ progress.

“80 players were tested in different locations around the country.

“We will monitor them during this festive season and we will map out our plans for the new rugby season,” Domoni said.

Development path

There are few Vodafone U20 names in the squad with the likes of Kaveni Dabenaise and Vasikali Mudu which Domoni believes is part of the development pathway.

“The U20 players who are part of the squad are the players who will miss out in the Junior World Rugby trophy in Zimbabwe next year since they will be turning 21.

“We are working towards getting these players prepared for the next Rugby World Cup in 2019.

“Our aim is to groom these players and keep them in the system.”

Meanwhile, the Warriors finished runners up in the 2015 Pacific Rugby Challenge losing to Pampas XV 9-17. They also had a successful mid-year international tour beating Uruguay XV (42-22, 30-22) and Argentina Jaguars 23-21.
