Jioanani Fakahilo’s love and passion for art enabled her to be recognised at a national level.

The 13-year-old Year Six student of Nadi Sangam Primary School was among 300 students from around Fiji who were awarded in recognition of their artwork and writing as part of the Ministry of Education-organised art and writing competition.

“I love drawing and my drawing is about unity. I believe that if people around the world can work together hand-in-hand, we can make the world a better place to live in,” Jioanani said.

More than 25,000 entries were received from students around the country where the top 300 were recognised.

The competition required students to produce in writing or in art anything which depicted any virtue.

Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, Mahendra Reddy, while officiating at the awards ceremony at the Fiji Museum last Friday, said the introduction of such platforms was vital in showcasing the various talents of school students.

Mr Reddy said they had plans of introducing such competitions to secondary schools from next year.
