The Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, has criticised Opposition Leader, Ro Teimumu Kepa, for her latest negative comments against Fiji.

He said the Opposition needs to stop feeding certain Australian and New Zealand media organisations which are always trying to potray Fiji in a bad light, even at the expense of compromising the truth.

She claimed in a Radio NZ International report that Fiji was still governed by fear and intimidation and the country was yet to return to full democracy and there has been no justice for “torture victims”.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said: “Suffice to say and without giving any credibility to the issued statement by the Opposition and its leader, the Opposition needs to be in tune with the ground realities in Fiji and stop feeding into and off the insatiable appetite of certain media organisations in New Zealand and Australia to always potray Fiji in a negative light even at the expense of compromising the truth.”

Minister for National Security, Immigration and Defence, Timoci Natuva said the Opposition Leader should always try to first know the truth and specific details before giving out such comments.

Lawyer Ravindra-Singh also made the claims and allegations of threat and torture during an interview with Radio NZ International last week. He claimed it was to deter him from representing people on sedition-related charges.

Mr Singh backtracked on his Radio New Zealand International claims when approached by the Fiji Sun.

Acting Police Commissioner, Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho, said they had not received any complaint from Mr Singh.
