Volunteer Group Keeps Children Busy

To help prevent students going astray during schools holidays Projects Abroad volunteers have initiated a week-long village school in Nakavu, Nadi.
Project co-ordinator Mere Gaunavou said the village school had been of great assistance to parents and as well the children.
“We have seen in past years there has been a lot of drowning and other accident cases so this year we have come up with the idea of keeping the children occupied with a village school programme,” Ms Gaunavou said.
She said the programme had built strong bonds among the children in the village.
“These kids come from different primary schools in Nadi. What we have seen is that they were not really on good terms when we started but then as we continued their attitudes have changed and now they get along fine.
“This programme will also help children prepare for the higher education they will go to next year,” she said.
The village school programme offers a variety of learning for students; it teaches them more about basic education including reading as well as general outdoor rules.
Eight international volunteers are helping out the more than 50 children that are enjoying the village school programme in Nakavu Village.
