Wednesday’s Anti-Corruption Day

Corruption has become a global phenomenon and is wide spread across all sectors of life.
It can be referred to as the destruction of an individual’s loyalty or honesty through undermining self-righteousness or integrity.
There tends to be no standardised definition for corruption as the definition differs from one country to another.
However, accomplished researchers such as Robert Klitgard define corruption as the abuse of public resources or funds for private gain.
To eradicate and to dismantle the high walls of corruption Anti-Corruption Agencies ratified under the United Nations Convention Against Corruption commemorate International Anti-Corruption Day on Wednesday, December 9, as a mean to mount a global response to corruption.
The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption will also partake in the global event and will conduct road shows throughout the country with an operational theme “Fostering Partnership Against Corruption for Sustainable Development in Fiji.”
The Commission intends to raise the level of awareness among public on the ills of corruption.
In doing so, the FICAC team will conduct road shows in all major centre’s in Central/Eastern, Northern and Western Divisions. Members of the public are urged to come in numbers to meet officers from FICAC and receive fist hand information on the Commissions operations.
The engagement includes free give away such as the 2016 calendar, informative FICAC brochures, bookmarks, stickers and posters. FICAC’s Education and Awareness officers will also educate members of the public on anti-corruption measures that prevent corruption from occurring.
The awareness will also relate red flags within institutions or organisation that can be vulnerable to corrupt practices.
A FICAC complaints officer will also be available to receive complaints from the public.
