An emotional mother Lice Karawa thanked God for blessing her with a son who is a cancer survivor.

Mrs Karawa said after seven years of marriage, their prayers were finally answered when they were blessed with a son, Peni Delaitelau.

“Peni was one-year-old when the doctors discovered that he had cancer which was really hard to accept. The sad news broke our heats, but we knew we had to be strong.

“Peni was a healthy and happy child until one day, my husband and I discovered blisters on his gums. So we took him to Korovou Sub-divisional Hospital where the doctors told us that our son has had developed cancer.”
Peni, who is now a four-year-old, was treated along with other WOWS kids to a meal/dinner and pampered with gifts from Carpenters Fiji Limited staff at MHCC in Suva on Monday.

Mrs Karawa said it was a painful time for them when Peni got transferred to the CWM Hospital in Suva for a week in 2012.

“Peni went through a lot of pain in the past three years from injections, pills and so forth.

“The doctors saw continuous blood clot coming out of his nose and mouth. He looked so helpless but we continued to pray and thanked the Lord for his life and we knew deep down that God will spare his life for he is our only son,” she said.

But this did not deter Mrs Karawa’s faith as she remained adamant that her son’s health was going to progress.

“Early this year, the doctors informed us that after few tests they could not see any cancer in Peni and that he will survive. We thank the Lord and will continue to thank him for blessing us with our only son,” she said.
