By providing approximately 60 mega-litres of water per day to the Tamavua Treatment Plant ,four new pumps were, recently installed at the Waimanu Pumping Station in Sawani.they are expected to improve the supply of water to the greater Suva area.
Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) CEO, Opetaia Ravai, said the Waimanu Pumping Station play’s a key role in ensuring a reliable supply of water was available to the Suva-Lami-Veisari areas.
“The old pumps had exceeded their design life, with a gradual decline in pumping efficiency. The new pumps will also ensure consistency and reliability of the overall system, with reduced downtime,” said Mr Ravai.
The pumps were purchased at an approximate cost of $3.5 million and installed by WAF engineers with technical support by personnel from the suppliers.
WAF has also invested in two standby generator sets worth about $3.4 million to be installed at the Waimanu Pumping Station.
Mr Ravai said the generators would be fully automated and would be equipped with an automatic transfer switch. They will be monitored and controlled through SCADA from the WAF National Control Centre.
