Nauru is the new champion of the Australian Football League (AFL) Under -15 Oceania Cup.

This was after they defeated the Fiji Junior Tribe 48-31 in the final at Furnival Park, Toorak yesterday. This is the second time since 2013 they have won the tournament.

“It feels great winning and I could not be more happy and proud of the way our boys played,” coach Zac Temaki said.

“It has been a long journey for us to get to this moment because following our loss in 2014, we worked harder to pull our second win and we did it.

Temaki said his boys enjoy playing against international teams rather than teams back home.

“This is our main sport and this win will make everyone at home happy. We have a new U15 boys every year and this is the first time for most of them to travel outside of the island.”

Meanwhile, Fiji Junior Tribe coach Maciu Raida commended his team.

“Nauru deserved the win and all we can do now is work harder next year,” he said.
