PM Grants Orphan’s Christmas Wish

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama yesterday ordered a 23-seater minibus be delivered to Methodist Dilkusha Home before Christmas after hearing the plea from an orphan girl.

During the first break of the disbursement of Micro Small Business Grants at Ratu Cakobau Park yesterday, Prime Minister Bainimarama visited the Methodist Dilkusha Home children who had sung the National Anthem at the park.

Whilst there the PM asked them what they wanted for Christmas and a girl replied they wanted a van.

In response the Prime Minister said – “You will get it.”

“Our prayers are answered,” said Methodist Dilkusha Home matron, Deaconess Leba Laveti.

The Prime Minister soon after told one of his staff, Vilikesa Waqatairewa, to tell the Acting Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Naipote Katonitabua, to get quotations for a 23-seater minibus.

“I want the minibus delivered to Dilkusha Home before Christmas,” Mr Bainimarama said.

Deaconess Laveti said the minibus would be the best Christmas gift ever for the children at the home.

She said they had on various occasions, asked some overseas visitors and local companies who had visited them but there was no positive response.

“It has taken years for our request to be heard and it was heard by our Prime Minister, who really cared for the children at the home and the people of Fiji,” Deaconess Laveti said.

She said the girls and boys were invited to sing the national anthem and were dressed in their Sunday wear with a blue ribbon to show their support for the Bainimarama-led Government.

“We are here just to sing the national anthem and we never dreamed of the blessing we received from the Prime Minister.”

Deaconess Laveti said the children were also blessed and excited to have met the Prime Minister in person.
