The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) will now be fully engaged in the Southern Cross Multinational Military Exercise next year in New Caledonia.

This was confirmed by Colonel Christophe Ysewyn, the Commanding Officer of the Pacific Marine Infantry Regiment in New Caledonia.

Fiji, he said was an observer in the last training but would be a player with other Pacific nations in the next one in 2016 because this was part of the exercise agreement.

He said the RFMF would also be part of its preparatory meeting in the lead up to the exercise.

Colonel Ysewyn also talked about his visit to Nukurua in Tailevu where the 25-member French platoon would be carrying out their jungle training for two weeks.

He was happy with what he saw adding that the forest was very green compared to the one in New Caledonia.

He said on Tuesday and Wednesday next week, the troop would be carrying out their survival exercise using bamboos   crossing the rivers.

The training he said would be beneficial to all the participants especially when they would be in contact with Fijian soldiers.

The Charge d’Affaires in the Fiji French Embassy, Jules Irrmann, said this training was part of the agreement signed in May between France and Fiji.

He said in the agreement the training should take place before the end of the year and was happy that it had happened.
