Touched By Son’s Success

Three years ago, Renu Singh, a mother in Lautoka, could not accept her son’s wish to become a church minister.

On Tuesday, tears streamed down her face as her son, Shivneel Shivan Kumar, 26, achieved his dream of becoming a church minister.

Mr Kumar was the Most Outstanding Student.

Ms Singh attended the graduation at Calvary Temple in Suva on Tuesday.

“When Shivneel first joined the Bible College, I did not show any appreciation at all because I wanted him to further his education, get qualified and earn a good job,” an emotional Mrs Singh said.

“Seeing him graduate today made me so proud. He did not just graduate, but he received the outstanding student award which is amazing.”

They live at the Kashmir Housing Estate in Lautoka. Mr Kumar is the second eldest of five siblings.

“I am excited and blessed to receive this award and I thank the Lord Almighty for hearing my prayers and for touching my mother’s heart to accept my decision on joining the college,” he said.

“I never dreamed of becoming a priest or to even join the college until I felt the Holy Spirit move in me which made me join the college to preach the word of God.

“I am so happy that I made that decision with God’s help. I thank my family for their support and for once in my life, I felt good and I must say that the decision I made three years ago was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made,” he said.

Mr Kumar now waits for his first posting.
