In a bid to strengthen discipline, the Fiji Corrections Service has revived the drill competition for inmates and correction officers.

Ninety-six inmates from Nasinu, Naboro and Korovou Corrections Centres along with 270 correction officers from various divisions around the country took part in the competition at the Naboro Corrections Centre on Thursday.

Fiji Corrections Service Acting Commissioner Superintendent Kameli Ratuvakalevulevu said the drill was aimed at strengthening discipline of officers and inmates.

“Our theme for this last quarter is team building so the competition that we are having today is a way of bringing officers together and likewise the inmates.

“The direction that we are in, is to bring the inmates and work together, corroborate with our officers. I see that as a way forward especially when giving instructions or orders,” Superintendent Ratuvakalevulevu said.

He said the drill competition would teach inmates how to live a disciplined life and also prepare them before they were released from the centre.

The competition is the first phase of the service’s rehabilitation programme.

Meanwhile, the drill competition was won by the Southern Division.
