Stepdad Gets 10 Years For Rape
A 34-year-old stepfather was yesterday sentenced to 10 years and two months imprisonment by the High Court in Suva.
He appeared before Justice Vinsent Perera yesterday.
He was charged with one count each of assault with intent to commit rape, a count of sexual assault and one count of rape.
While delivering his sentence, Justice Perera said the man had breached the trust between him and his stepdaughter when he committed the offence.
The court heard that the incident happened on October 16 when he was at home with the victim after his wife and two children had gone to attend a funeral.
The victim is 20 years younger than him.
The man was convicted of attempted rape in 2008, the court heard.
Justice Perera ordered that he would not be eligible for parole until he has served at least eight years.
