Dream Come True For Telakau
Timo Tokelau and Susana Telakau yesterday.

Timo Telakau, of Tuvalu, was 1139 kilometres away from home when he achieved his childhood dream.

And he said it was the best day of his life.

He graduated alongside more than 1000 Fiji National University (FNU) students from the Vodafone Arena in Suva last Friday.

“When I was young, I used to dream of becoming a captain of a ship,” he said.

“So, throughout the years, I did not only wish for it, but I also worked hard towards achieving it.”

His wife Susana and their three children; Semiasi Frazier, 8, Timothy Telakau, 6, and Seleina Susey, 5, were beside him when he achieved his dream.

He is now a ship captain after graduating with a Trade Diploma in Nautical Science and Certificate IV in Ships Operation (Class 3 Master).

His island is 1139km from Fiji.

Mr Telakau came to Fiji three years ago with his family to achieve his dream.

“I dedicate my achievement and success to my family in Tuvalu and I thank my wife for being so amazing and supportive and my children are my inspiration,” the 32-year-old said.

The family will leave tomorrow to spend Christmas with relatives in Taiwan.
