Ex-Soldier Becomes Nurse

Nasoni Nasedra, a former Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) soldier, was a happy man last Friday.

He graduated with a Bachelor in Nursing from the Fiji National University’s College of  Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences.

“I feel so relieved now that I have reached one of my end goals,” Mr Nasadra said after receiving his degree at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

The 28-year-old is from Naqara in Naitasiri.

“I went through a lot of challenges. Before I joined the RFMF in 2009, I did not have a job so I stayed in the village for five years.

“I went on my first peacekeeping mission to Iraq in 2012 and I saw how people were severely injured and there were needs for medical care which I could not offer,” he said.

“I always like to save people.

“It is my job but when I   fail to help, it bothers me and that was when I decided that I need to join a nursing school,” he said.

“I want to dedicate my success to my late mother, Lusiana Tinai, who died in June. She is my inspiration and without her, I would not have reach this level.

“She was the best mother and I miss her,” he said.

“I thank my father, my wife and my son for being here today to witness my success and to help celebrate with me,” he said.

Nasoni will work as an intern nurse at the CWM Hospital next year and plans to rejoin the RFMF in 2017.
