Inmates Defeat Wardens

Corrections allows special inmates out with families on fun day
Suva Corrections Centre special stage inmates won a game of soccer against their wardens during their family fun day at the Veiuto School grounds last Saturday.
Thirty-eight inmates were part of the family fun day event.
These inmates are known as the special stage inmates because they can be trusted and work with little or no supervision.
Acting Commissioner of Corrections Kameli Ratuvakalevulevu said: “The family fun day is another way of bringing the inmates together with their family and the community.”
The idea was brought up by former Commissioner, Lieutenant-Colonel Ifereimi Vasu.
“This is the first time we are holding this event and having this family fun day does help our inmates to enjoy their time with their family members.
“We have also involved our children, who are on their annual break; it enables them to enjoy and have some quality time with their fathers who are always on duties as Corrections officers,” he said.
The wives also joined in the fun with a game of soccer.
