Our Men Set Pace in 7s

The Vodafone Fijian 7s team aims to be consistent in the World Sevens Series as they build towards the Rio Olympics in August.
After the fabulous win in Dubai last weekend Fiji needs to keep that drive in all their games, says coach Ben Ryan.
Ryan was pleased with the performance on the first day of the Cape Town Sevens going through unbeaten with the 54-19 thumping of Scotland and 52-0, 43-0 drubbing of Russia and Argentina respectively.
“We didn’t start brilliantly,” Ryan said.
“But the atmosphere in the dressing room before their last pool game was spot on and really good.
“It’s the sort of momentum we want. You don’t win tournaments on Day One but you do carry some momentum and that’s 33 games in- a- row now that we have won with this team so there is some real consistency coming through.”
Fiji scored 129 points and 19 against them which is more than any other team during day one of the Cape Town Sevens.
Fijians stamping their mark
The main contributor to the Fijians scoring the highest number of points scored was their flawless offloads. Five Fijians including France winger Virimi Vakatawa have been named in the top five offloads list of the Cape Town Sevens.
- Pio Tuwai (13),2. Isake Katonibau (10). 3. Savenaca Rawaca (10), 4 Jasa Veremalua (10), 5.France Virimi Vakatawa (9)
Vatemo Ravouvou has also been included in the top five points’scorer after day one.
- USA Madison Hughes (42), Fiji Vatemo Ravouvou (33), France Terry Bouhraoua (27), Scotland Scott Wight (24), Australia James Stannard (22)
Rawaca has also made it into the DHL Performance tracker, which reviews a player’s performance on the field, coming in seventh with one tackle, seven breaks, five offloads and 11 carries having a total of 24 points.
