Airports Fiji Limited (AFL) will pay $600,000 to its workers before Christmas as bonus pay.

The bonus was approved and announced by the Attorney-General and Minister for Public Enterprises Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum in Nadi yesterday.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said the bonus was paid based on a strong financial performance by AFL this year.

As per its management accounts AFL had forecasted end of the year record profit of $40million before tax and $32m after tax.

“All of the staff of AFL must be congratulated and must continue to work hard to endeavour to do even better in future,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

“We are told by the executive chair, Faiz Khan, that in addition to this end of the year across the board bonus paid to all, AFL throughout the year recognises exceptional performances of individuals and rewards them with higher pays or promotions.

“So the $600,000 across the board bonus incentive pay is over and above the ongoing performance review pay increments of the departments and individuals,” he said.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said the bonus pay was a result of team effort.

“I have often said that it is the team effort that achieves results.

“When a driver does not show up to work, it affects the operations.

“When a cleaner does not come to work, the toilets will not be clean.

“Irrespective of the positions you hold, each is important to the overall functions and outcome of your organisation.

Mr Khan said: “Bonus will be paid at the rate of five per cent of base salary at the time of the bonus payment.”

He said AFL had a great team of workers who had embraced a culture of better-work ethics and higher productivity.

“We are truly proud of our team and we can only get better; not only in our financial performances, but in our service deliveries.

“AFL is on the right path to leave a lasting image to our visitors when they arrive into Fiji and when they leave us… only to return.

“We are on the right path to become a true hub of the Pacific,” Mr Khan said.
