Boxing Gets Low Blow, Fans Suffer

The Boxing of Commission of Fiji is going to investigate the non-appearance of Petero Qica to defend the Fiji heavyweight title against Napoleon Taumoepeau last Saturday night.
Speaking to SUNsports yesterday BFC acting chairman Malakai Veisamasama said they were waiting for all the reports to come in before they consult all the stakeholders
“It is going to be investigated,” he said.
“Qica is a professional boxer and he should not have signed the dotted line if he was not ready for the fightmasama said.
“But in this situation, Qica had signed the contract, collected 25 per cent of his purse and he should have honoured it. “Napoleon had signed the contract and he honoured it by turning up for the fight.”
Meanwhile, boxing official and hotelier Mostafa Khattab said Qica’s action was a low blow to the sport.
Khattab said the Wild West promotion was well-organised and the undercards had a lot of good fights from upcoming boxers.
“It was a thriller to watch these fights but Qica’s non-appearance was a big disappointment. I always bet on him but last Saturday night he really let me down.”
He added that promoter Abdul Khan should not be blamed for he has done his part but the main issue here is the boxer’s attitude.
