Good Round: Ryan

Coach Ben Ryan is happy with the Vodafone Fijian 7s team performance in the first two tournaments of the 2015-16 World Sevens Series.

After a fabulous performance capturing the Dubai 7s in clinical fashion, the team manages to show consistency at the inaugural Cape Town Sevens.

Winning the Plate final after losing to France 14-17 in the Cup quarterfinal, the team still lead the series standings on 35 points with South Africa.

Ryan said despite winning the Plate title after beating USA 29-19, he was proud of the performance team losing one game in two tournaments.

“Obviously we would have loved to go back-to- back but I was really pleased with the Fijian spirit during the two days,” Ryan said.

“We played some good football and still finished top of the World Sevens Series standings after two events. And we are six points better off than we were in these two events last year.

“It’s been great, thank you all for the support.”

With convincing wins in their pool games, France shocked the Fijians in the Cup quarterfinals.

However, Fiji picked up on form again thrashing Australia 38-19 in the Plate semifinals with two tries from Apisai Domolailai, Savenaca Rawaca and Osea Kolinisau with three conversions by Vatemo Ravouvou to lead 26-0 at halftime.

But Fiji kept their dominance with tries from Alifereti Veitokani and Emosi Mulevoro.

Australia’s late try and conversion by Greg Jeloudev and James Stannard respectively, was not enough to beat the Fijians, ending the game in Fiji’s favour 38-19.

Despite not reaching the Cup finals, Fiji still leads the World Series table sitting on 35 points with South Africa.
