Ghanaian boxer calls for public support in middleweight fight with Tagi

Ghanaian super middleweight boxer Joseph Kwadjo flies out to Labasa today with a mission to help lift the image of professional boxing in the country.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, Kwadjo said he was hoping to set things right with this fight against Fiji middleweight champion Opeti Tagi at Subrail Park, Labasa on Saturday.

“I’m calling on boxing fans in Labasa to come and support this promotion,” he said.

“I cannot do it alone as we (boxers and promoters) need your support to make it happen.”

Kwadjo said he was expecting a tough fight since Tagi was not going to be a pushover.

“I will need to look at how Opeti Tagi moves in the first round before I decide on what to do next. He’s a good boxer and it’s going to be very tough.”

In an interview on Monday, Tagi said his dad cum trainer Saula Naicori has joined his camp at training.

Tagi indicated that he had been having daily sparring sessions with light heavyweight boxer Vitori Natawake along with Waisele Ratu, who will be fighting upcoming sensation Sebastian Singh in the main supporting bout.

“I’ve been working on my ringcraft and how best to handle Kwadjo,” he said.

“I’m already in Labasa and I call on boxing fans to come in on Friday and meet the boxers as they will be at the weigh-in,” he said.
