The Westfield Dragons rugby team officials have introduced a new strategy of training so that players are consistent for their inaugural mini-sevens tournament this Saturday.

The team will also be gunning for their third win after walking out victorious from the Veiyasana and the Nakelo 7s tournaments last month.

Coach Epeli Lagiloa said he had been doing a research on how his players could use their fitness in the right way.

“Sometimes their energy expenditure is not utilised to the full.”

“We have to go science now; nine weeks of preparation is a long time and they only spend about five minutes in a game so as a result they need to equate that in trying to turning that into tries,” Lagiloa said.

“Everything is going science, even at the national level the boys are still not running the way they should.”

“It’s all about bio-mechanics and it’s all about science,” he said.

He said the have gone in to a new strategy to rate how their players performed.

“We are going high-tech now so that we take an aerial view for our players so that we can gauge our performance.

“How they use their skills in the game and then plan for the next game.”

The team will be fielding a bunch of fresh talents in the tournament.

“We are always predictable, I don’t mean that we are going to win the tournament but we always give the best and we have the best bunch of young players from 17 to 18 years old,” he said.
