‘I need to spend more time with my family as I am aging and my family is my priority now’

Former Wallaby Lote Tuqiri says he does not regret ending his rugby career.

Tuqiri, who is on vacation with his family at Castaway Island, Mamanuca said his family was a priority to him and he needed to spend more time with them.

“It is great for me to finish 2014 with South Sydney Rabbitohs with a grand final victory and I am just enjoying being a father now,” Tuqiri said.

“I need to spend more time with my family as I am aging and my family is my priority now. I just had another child about three months ago so we are really enjoying that,” he said.

Tuqiri also mentioned that playing rugby for both Wallabies and Fiji Bati was a proud moment for him.

“I have really enjoyed being part of both Fiji and Wallabies,” he said.

Tuqiri said the major highlight of his career in the Wallabies jersey was the 2003 World Cup.

“Being in the Wallabies team and scoring a try in the final was a different feeling altogether. It was something I will cherish in my lifetime,” he said.

Fiji Bati

He also mentioned that a highlight of his career with Fiji Bati was in 2000 Rugby League World Cup.

“In year 2000, we went to the Rugby League World Cup and I was the captain; I was really proud to represent Fiji in the Bati jersey.”

Vacation on Castaway Island Fiji

Tuqiri said that he loved to spend time with his family at Castaway Island in Fiji.

“We just really enjoy Castaway and it is very safe for the kids and the families can all be together. I have been coming here for more than 20 years now with my in-laws.

“Coming back to Fiji is always nice and we are very thankful that we can come back every year,” he said. Edited by Manasa Kalouniviti
