Post Fiji Limited yesterday paid a three- year dividend of $1,249, 574 to the Government.

Board Chairman Lawrence Tikaram said the dividend payment was made possible through the hard work of its staff.

MR Tikaram added the dividend payment to Government by Post Fiji Limited is in recognition of the company’s efforts to turn around its performance in the last three years.

“The turnover of the business in the last three years, I must commend the staff of Post Fiji. They were the ones who embraced the changes and through these changes brought about a dividend which is now payable to the Government.

“We just turned the corner; we need to act a lot smarter and do things that are more efficient to ensure that as an entity we need to grow along and prosper along with our staff so congratulations to the staff of Post Fiji for making this possible.”

Receiving the cheque was the Attorney General and Minister for Finance and Public Enterprise Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said the Government understood Post Fiji had gone through a lot financially as the company last presented its dividend to Government in 2012.

He said: “Most people do not realise that post offices throughout the world, all of them had to reinvent themselves because of the traditional mode of communication. So Post Fiji like the other post offices throughout the world has had to reinvent itself.”

He added: “The current chair and his team are addressing those issues and we are of course here to provide support because they do provide service, you would have seen a couple of days ago. The MSAF agreed to use the postal agencies and the postal offices to provide a particular service primarily because Post Fiji has a network of branches and some branches throughout Fiji that can be used.”

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum thanked the chair, board members and the staff for their contribution and ensuring that Post Fiji remains a viable proposition as a stakeholder enterprise.
