Association Learns From Mistake

Proper and realistic strategic planning would need to be in place: President Waletu
Members of the Vanua Levu Producers and Marketing Association have learned from their mistakes and have made plans for next year.
This comes after the Farmers’ Carnival last week at the Subrail Park in Labasa was a loss.
President Samisoni Waletu said they must improve in terms of communication, marketing and advertisement, strategic plans and media coverage.
“It was the first time for us to organise a carnival; we experienced a drawback but we will learn from this for a more successful outcome in future carnivals,” Mr Waletu said.
“Lack of manpower and support was the main issue so proper and realistic strategic planning would need to be in place.
“It would be the right time and right crowd where people get to experience agriculture shows, handicraft show, oratory contests and even a beauty pageant with complete food and business stalls,” Mr Waletu said.
“Plans for the carnival were also to help fundraise for a local cassava factory.
“The priority of course is helping farmers from the Cakaudrove, Bua and Macuata provinces to showcase their produce and allow them to network about best farming and marketing skills coupled with time management awareness.
He said he would need full support from local business, province departments, farmers, youths and locals in order to be more successful.
Meanwhile, Mr Waletu said the association was already planning to hold another Farmers’ Carnival early next year.
