Parents’ Inspiration

Courage drove Brian Malani and Li Guang Yin while they were studying in China for the past five years.
The two graduated with a Masters Degree in Clinical Medicine and will resume work at Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWMH) from January next year.
Mr Malani and Miss Li said their parents’ encouragement inspired them to do well.
“It was tough studying with Chinese students. They are taught in their own language and for us foreign students we had to familiarise ourselves with their language for 10 months and this was not enough,” Mr Malani said.
“We were lucky that we had each other so we tried to help each other out all the time so that we both passed our exams.
“Courage is not the strength to go on but going on when you don’t have the strength and this is exactly what we experienced while we were studying in China for the last five years.”
Mr Malani and Miss Li, together with their colleagues who returned from China, visited the Confucius Institute at the University of the South Pacific (USP) in Suva yesterday.
