Real issues

The Christmas Spirit can do wonders this festive season. It can humble people and do amazing things that otherwise could not be done.
The talanoa session the other night at SODELPA headquarters in Suva apparently made some progress in softening hearts. Towards the end of the session more people attended and there was a general feeling that there should be a truce at least between the two rival factions to allow the party to breathe.
SODELPA president Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu reinforced the reconciliation feeling with his words of wisdom. He said a divided party could not make any progress.
There is no strong evidence yet to suggest that a truce has been agreed and whether it can be sustained. This can only be done if the real issues that led to the split are resolved.
No window dressing or cosmetic treatment can do it.
Speight truth
Who was really behind George Speight and the evils of the 2000 coup?
Naloto’s new chief yesterday made it clear they had never supported local boy Speight. They had apologised to the military immediately.
The continuing question is who were those in the shadows apparently ready to step forward if things went Speight’s way? Will Speight – jailed in Naboro – ever tell all?
