Parveen Kumar says the Ba Town Council needs support from all sectors of the community.

The Minister for Local Government, Housing and Environment, Infrastructure & Transport made the comments during the opening of Ba Multi-Purpose Sports Complex & Horse Race Track in Namosau, Ba, yesterday.

The complex was funded by Government through the Ministry of Local Government, Housing & Environment Challenge Fund.

A total of $203,500 was allocated for the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex which consists of a pavilion, a judges shed, changing rooms, toilet facilities and the upgraded horse race track.

Kumar said the FijiFirst Government will continue to assist communities and improve the infrastructure.

“The Local Government is here to stay to serve the needs of our community. It’s  my hope that all sectors will support the Ba Town Council and contribute towards achieving the desired outcome for the common good of all who all call Ba home,” Kumar said.

He also acknowledged the interest shown by the horse owners and fans that turned out in numbers at the event.

“This is a good start and I am sure that with your support the momentum will grow with every race,” he said.

Kumar said the Government was trying to encourage Fijians to take part in sports as it helps them in many ways.

“Sports develops character and can bring out the best in a person,” he said.

“Young Fijians are using their sporting prowess to carve out lucrative professional careers for themselves.

Seventy three horses took part in 17 races yesterday.

The event was sponsored by Bhai Builders Limited.
