Cokanauto Gives Court New Address

The High Court in Suva was yesterday informed of the new residential address of a former church Pastor facing charges in relation to rape and sexual assault.

Jone Cokanauto appeared before Justice Salesi Temo at the High Court in Suva yesterday.

Defence lawyer Simione Valenitabua informed the court that his client has taken the alternative given by the court earlier to look for another residence in Suva after his client was given an eviction notice on October 22 by his landlord.

Mr Valenitabua confirmed to the court that his client now lives at Nasese in Suva.

In its first hearing for bail variation the State had objected to Cokanauto’s proposed change in residence to Welagi Village in Taveuni because some of the alleged victims of the case on lived in that village.

Justice Temo had said then that the last thing the court would consider was to place an alleged sexual offender near his victims.

He had also stated in that hearing that if Prosecution said there were other allegations against the accused, he would then have to take it seriously.
