Choose a career that will open a door rather than waiting to open up.

Those were the words of Sonal Gaytri, 26, who scooped the Dux award during the 2015 graduating class of the South Pacific Academy of Beauty Therapy (SPABT) at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi last Friday night.

She was over the moon when she received the top award for the academic year including for best team leader.

“I am very happy to get this award as I have worked hard to attain such accolades,” Ms Gaytri said.

Originally from Bulileka, Labasa now has two qualifications.

“I graduated with Diploma in Public Health and Nutrition from FSM in 2005 but did not get the job, I wanted as to be dietician,” she said.

She pushed aside challenges that failed to deter her ambitious mind landing a work at the Fiji Kidney Foundation in Suva for some time.

“I moved to Nadi as my husband got a job here then I was unemployed so I thought why don’t I join the academy at least I could have two qualifications. There is a great demand for such work and I did not look back.”
