Christmas Plans Washed Away

Wainadoi farmer loses harvest
A farmer of Wainadoi Village is contemplating how his family would celebrate Christmas on Friday.
This was after his crops were washed away in a flashflood on Monday night.
Paula Iranatora, 46, planted dalo, cassava and vudi for his Christmas harvest at the family farm near the river which runs along his village.
He had planned to harvest them this week to sell in the market for their Christmas shopping.
“I was due to harvest this week to sell them for our Christmas, but all my efforts have been washed away by the flood waters,” Mr Iranatora said.
He has been farming for the past 20 years.
It is his only source of income. The flashflood at the village on Monday night not only destroyed their farm, but their home too.
“I do not know how I will celebrate this Christmas with my wife and our six children. This year will be a sad Christmas for us,” he said.
He is pleading for help from Government and members of the public.
