USA Eagles rugby flanker Andrew Durutalo says he is honoured to feature for new Japanese franchise the Sunwolves in the 2016 Super Rugby competition.

He will play alongside Telecom Fijian Warrior winger John Stewart. Other notable names in the team are Harumichi Tatekawa, Samoan fly half Tusi Pisi and Atushi Hiwasa.

Durutalo tweeted: “Honored to be named part of the @sunwolves franchise for the 2016 @SuperRugby season.”

The state of the franchise has been beaming with astonishing naming of former All Blacks Matt Hammet as Head coach few days ago which seems very interesting for all parties concerned.

But Durutalo’s choice mean he may not join the excitement with USA 7s head coach Mike Friday, who is without the services of most experienced forwards for the HSBC World Sevens series, and also the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Durutalo’s excellent form on the circuit prompted him to be called into the XVs squad by Mike Tolkin, and he quickly established himself as the first choice open-side flanker for the World Cup.

The back row star has previous links to Japan where he played Hakuoh University in Japan where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration.

The American-born Fijian attended Suva Grammar and captained Fiji U19. He made his Eagles 7s debut in 2011 and his test debut came in 2012 against Canada.

Durutalo was born in New York City but had links to Bukuya, Magodro in Ba.

He attended Suva Grammar School. Durutalo captained Fiji’s Under 19 rugby union team at the 2006 Under 19 Rugby World Championship.

He also represented Fiji’s U21 side then was first capped by the USA team in 2012 against Canada.

Durutalo also played for USA at the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England.
