Town cleanliness is an area that needs improvement

Staff members of the Ministry of Local Government, Housing and Environment were acknowledged last night for their hard work and perseverance throughout the year.

The Minister, Parveen Kumar, described the year as ‘tough’.

“We had been experiencing the change in weather patterns for the past few months and as we have seen for the past few days, the heavy rain experienced in the Central Division. I commend you for your work in trying to keep our municipals clean,” he said last night during the awards ceremony at the Suva Civic Centre.

“With the dry spell experienced in the Western and Northern divisions, I have seen how you have tried your best to keep it green.”

Mr Kumar also highlighted some of the areas that needed improvement. This included:

n Providing of suitable recreation facilities;

n Maintenance of open space facilities; and

n Cleanliness of towns and city areas.

At least 17 staff members were recognised for their excellence in service.
