Inmates at Labasa Corrections Centre were reduced to tears as the Duavata Methodist Church Choir sang them Christmas carols yesterday morning.

The choir, which included children, visited the centre early in the morning.

The inmates, who will not share the festivity with their families, shed tears as the choir harmoniously brought home the true meaning of Christmas.

Choir spokesperson Peniasi Waqawai said they were saddened to see inmates in tears during the carolling.

“It was so wonderful to come out and sing to people during this festive season,” Mr Waqawai said.

“I cried when I saw them with tears when we were singing ‘Joy to the World.’ It was so sad knowing that the inmates are away from their homes.”
