The Lautoka City Council says that teamwork has enabled them to take the Large Council’s award for the fourth consecutive year.

This was during the Ministry of Local Government’s Municipal Council awards which recognise all the councils’ efforts to improve its services delivery and development projects.

Lautoka City Council chief executive Jone Nakauvadra said the council had always tried to implement new projects and this was one of the contributing factors towards their win.

“This is the fourth time that we have won the award consecutively and it was through teamwork and collective efforts by our staff, the council and the rate-payers,” Mr Nakauvadra said.

Some new projects the council implemented included the construction of a fountain at Marine Drive and the Rubbish Collection Centre for those residing at informal settlements in Tavakubu.

The award, he said would motivate the council to strive for excellence next year and also work to retain the award for the fifth consecutive year.

Mr Nakauvadra said their targets this year were not over yet so as to ensure they stay on top of the other large councils.

The award was held at the Suva Civic Centre event on Tuesday night.
