The Telecom Fijiana team aims to spring more surprises in the new season.

Women’s Rugby coaching director Chris Cracknell said they would work hard to be consistent on the Women Sevens Series starting with the next tournament in Sao Paulo, Brazil on February 20-21.

The team beat top guns USA and Canada in Dubai but lost to France in the Cup quarterfinal.

Cracknell said fitness was one of their main weaknesses and hopes to do better in 2016.

“The girls still need to get fitter and also grow their understanding of one another to enable us to play our way,” Cracknell said.

“The New Year resolution is to get better every session and to continue to shock the 7s world.

“We had plenty of highlights this year working with this incredible group however qualification to the Olympics and beating the USA and Canada in Dubai are my personal highlights.”

The Telecom Fijiana squad are sacrificing this festive season to prepare for the second leg of the Womens Sevens Series.

“They still aren’t where we want them to be conditioning-wise, so that is my expectation for them, to come in to camp after Christmas.

“Not ready to play but fitter and stronger from where we were at the end of Dubai. Their programmes have been prescribed specifically for them as individuals so there is no excuses,” Cracknell.

Fiji is in the same pool with Canada, Dubai champions Australia and Ireland.

“Extremely tough group and our first game is against Australia who we are yet to play this year. It’s a great challenge and the girls will be up for it and no doubt are excited about it  already.”

Fiji is currently seventh on the World Series standings with eight points. ”
