Father Christmas arrives on bilibili.

The Ministry of Agriculture will be installing water tanks around the Western Division and to target farming areas which need water the most.

This is to help ease the impact of the dry spell.

Principal agriculture officer West Vinesh Kumar said: “Of the 127 tanks to install, there will be 20 tanks established as area tanks to help cater for farmers who still need water for their farms and household needs.”

Mr Kumar said a survey was conducted recently to identify which areas needed water assistance most.

“Government is putting in a lot of efforts to help cater for crops and livestock,” he said.

“Ba and Tavua are the two places we are focussing on because our survey showed they need more water. We are doing our part and we would want the public to do theirs as well.”

“We request people in affected areas to fill their buckets and drums with water during rain. The public should also be on the alert against flash flooding and clear drains ad water ways to avoid blockage.”

Mr Kumar said supply of 80×200 litre drums of molasses would be supplied to livestock farmers in affected areas.

“We will also be distributing 120 bags of mill mix and 400 bags of copra. This is a collaborative effort between us and the Commissioner Western’s Office so that resources are not wasted as it’s a costly affair when it comes to logistics,” he said.
