Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports Iliesa Delana married his Australian sweetheart Tara Dias on Christmas Day.

The wedding, attended by close families and relatives, was held at the Tambua Sands Beach Resort.

While Delana wished to keep a low profile on his big day, Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou applauded the achievement.

“He needs support and we really appreciate the big decision he has made and best wishes to him,” Tuitubou said.

“This will also elevate his performance at work to be better and I will continue to give him my support.”

Delana’s personal coach Fred Fatiaki, who also attended the wedding on Friday, believes Delana has achieved another gold medal in his career.

“It was a very good function and as his coach, Delana has achieved another gold medal in his life and it’s an outstanding achievement,” Fatiaki said.

“They love each other very much; it was really a quite wedding ceremony enjoyed by his close families and friends,” Fatiaki said.

Fatiaki wished the couple the best of luck on their new journey.

“I wish them the best of luck and may God bless them in the New Year.”

Delana won gold for Fiji in the men’s high jump in the 2012 Paralympics in London.

“He is planning to take part in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo,” Fatiaki said.
