To make Christmas special for a special group of people, members of the 2015 Youth Parliament distributed food packs to people living on streets in Suva yesterday.

2015 youth MP Metuisela Vulawa said: “After one week of our Youth Parliament sitting, we decided to do something for members of the community this Christmas.

“We decided to feed people living on streets,” he said.

Mr Vulawa said during their Youth Parliament sitting they debated a lot on homeless people which was why the members came up with this idea.

“Our streets are flooded with youths.

“Some are ignored and neglected from homes and it is sad to see them on the streets,” he said.

Mr Vulawa said the members, instead of celebrating Christmas with their families, thought of spending the time doing community work this Christmas.

“I spend 364 days with my family members and spending one day on community work makes me feel proud,” he said.

At first the youth members thought of distributing cookies and juice to these people but instead we collected and provided food to them.

“They are less fortunate people who do not celebrate the festive season of Christmas with their family members,” he said.

Mr Vulawa has urged the people not to neglect anyone this Christmas.

“The 2015 Youth Parliamentian members are planning to form an organisation to help people living on streets,” he said.
