Kumar Launches Second Book

Local poet Raveen Kumar has released his second book of poems, titled Strength of a Woman.
Despite suffering from muscle disease, Mr Kumar’s dream became a reality in his book which talks about every aspect of a woman’s life.
“The poems contain thirty pieces and talks about a mother, sister, and daughter. The issues are what women go through like rape, and domestic violence.
“I got inspired to compile this book when I heard a six-year-old girl got raped in Lautoka few months ago,” he said.
“Like there are religions. There should be one more religion that is to respect a woman. So I felt that I should do this for women just like our Prime Minister (Voreqe Bainimarama) says in every speech of his on women and children.”
Mr Kumar added that the “pen is mightier than the sword.”
“These things should be talked about. We can be the change that we want the world to be,” he said.
Punjas Group director Kanti Punja, who officiated at the launch at the Girmit Centre in Lautoka, praised Raveen for not losing hope.
“Society plays an important role in a person’s life, no matter how people are we should encourage and motivate them to achieve their dreams,” he said.
Mr Punja, who arranged for the printing of the book at no cost to Mr Kumar, said he would continue to support and assist Mr Kumar’s effort in publishing more books written by him in future.
The book is sold at $10 a copy with all proceeds going to Mr Kumar’s mum, Phul Kuar.
