Prof Rouse’s Contract Ends
Professor Ian Rouse (Ieft).

Professor Ian Rouse will be exiting the Fiji National University on New Year’s Eve following his contract coming to an end.

The former acting Vice Chancellor has been at the university for the past six years.

Earlier, in October, he stepped down from the Acting Vice Chancellor’s post and  retained his substantive position as the Dean of the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Science.

The chancellor and chair of FNU Ikbal Jannif confirmed in a statement that the substantive position will be advertised in January 2016.

Professor Rouse joined the Fiji School of Medicine as the dean in March 2009.

He continued as the dean of the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences when the Fiji School of Medicine became part of the Fiji National University in 2010.

He was the acting Vice Chancellor for FNU for 10 months since December 2014.

He is currently on annual leave. Efforts to reach him for comments were unsuccessful when this article went to press.

Mr Jannif said Professor Rouse was an active member of the Senior Management Group and was well supported by his wife Carolyn Rouse.

He said Professor Rouse made positive change during his term as Dean and as acting Vice Chancellor.

“He became the ‘face of FNU’ in recent months and his involvement in a large number of projects certainly strengthened the profile of Fiji National University,” Mr Jannif said.

“We appreciate his enthusiasm and efforts and wish him and his wife all the best for the future.”
