Women’s Group Comforts 78-year-old Mother

A 78-year-old mother who lost her 48-year-old daughter found comfort from the members of the Labasa Maathar Sangam at Babasiga Ashram in Labasa.
The 15-member group visited Babasiga Ashram and offered their home cooked food (fish lolo, cassava and vegetarian meal) to the residents yesterday.
Labasa Maathar Sangam president Subhashni Gounder said the group’s main intension was to show their love to the residents especially this festive season providing home-cooked meal.
“In the due course we heard about Pragi’s daughter passing away and we felt fortunate to comfort her in her time of grief,” Mrs Gounder said.
“It is really a heartbreaking moment to lose a loved one.”
Ms Pragi said her daughter Sushila Wati died on Monday.
“She was mentally challenged and didn’t know what to do, I used to feed her with my own hands,” she said.
“Although we live without family support, we were happily living together in this place where we get food on time and care from the staff.”
Babasiga Ashram Welfare Officer Neha Prasad said all the residents were shock to know about Ms Wati’s death.
