The Ba Town Council street party was an event that had heads rolling on New Year’s Eve.

The town was closed from 6.30pm until 1.30am. People gathered on the streets to welcome 2016 with their friends and families.

Chief executive officer Dip Narayan said the main aim of the event was to bring families together to welcome the New Year.

“This is year’s New Year’s celebration is different as compared to the past ones that we have had.

“This year the crowd is very pleasing. Despite the unfavourable weather conditions, people still made an effort to come for the street party,” he said.

By 10.30pm more than 800 people filled the streets of Ba dancing the 2015 final night away, taking part in the dancing competitions and going home with giveaways from the event and Vodafone Fiji.

The event was organised by the Ba Town committee members.

“The people of Ba wanted a street party and we gave it to them,” Mr Narayan said.

The Minister for Local Governments, Housing and Environment Parveen Kumar led the countdown and the celebration in his hometown.
