Suva will be looking to field a strong team against Nadi in the Pillay Garment’s Champion versus Champion Series on January 31.

Suva Football Association president Mahendra Prasad said training starts on January 18 as they want to start the year on a good note.

“This year we want to focus more training and getting our players ready for every tournament,” Prasad said.

“This is the first tournament of the season and having a good start is really important because it will give us that extra boost mentally and physically.

“We did not really have that much of a good year in 2015. We had our ups and downs just like any other team.

“Improving our level of performance is really important for us and we are just anticipating a really positive year.”

With most of their players in the national team, Prasad said it would be good to have them available

“We have about seven players who will be joining us again from the national team which will be a boost,” he said.

“We lost a majority of players last year and we want to build a strong team  to benefit us in the long run.

“We anticipate a tough but good game and also a tough year. Every team I know would be working hard to win a tournament so it will not be easy.”

Suva and Nadi will face on January 31 with the venue yet to be confirmed.
