Boyz II Men is the biggest and most successful American R&B band in history with over 70 million albums sold worldwide.

That is more than the entire population of Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific region put together.

In terms of awards, the group has four prestigious Grammy Awards and throughout their 20-plus year career, Boyz II Men have also won a massive nine American Music Awards, 9 Soul Train Awards, 3 Billboard Awards, and been recognised countless times for their Outstanding Contribution to Music.

Just recently to commemorate the band’s success, they were awarded a Star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.

1992 was the year that Boyz II Men gained huge international success beginning with the release of the number one single “End of the Road” which topped the charts worldwide and set a new record for staying at number one on the Billboard Top 100 Charts for a record breaking 13 consecutive weeks.

The band continued its record breaking spree when they released the smash hit song “I’ll Make Love to You” which once again broke all records staying at number one on the Billboard Top 100 Charts this time for an incredible 14 consecutive weeks.

After the huge success of their songs,  Boyz II Men decided to pair up with singing sensation Mariah Carey and together they produced the classic song    “One Sweet Day.” Once again they topped the Billboard Top 100 Charts and this time they broke their own record and stayed at Number One for an unprecedented 16 weeks.

Following their success, Boyz II Men returned to studio and released “II” which sold more than 15 million copies in the United States alone becoming one of the best-selling albums ever released by an R&B group and one of the biggest selling albums of the decade.

It’s easy to see why Boyz II Men remains the most popular R&B group of all time. Ask any successful pop or R&B superstar which artists have inspired them- chances are Boyz II Men will be at the top. From Justin Timberlake and Usher to Justin Bieber and Beyonce, the most successful stars in the industry look to Boyz II Men as their inspiration.

Beyond making music, giving back is also important to Boyz II Men. The group has its own charity called Boyz II Men House which lends support to individuals and organisations that focus on improving quality of life and helping to unlock human potential, while contributing to the health and vitality of those less fortunate.

The group was originally formed in Philadelphia by high school friends Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris, Michael McCary and Shawn Stockman.

From these humble beginnings, the band used to practice in the school bathroom between lessons honing their silky voices and singing love ballads.

Once they were spotted and signed up, the rest as they say was history and we the public had the chance to enjoy their melodious voices and listen to their many hits.

I was fortunate enough to be invited to meet and interview the band when I was in Las Vegas on my latest trip. Not just that, but I was also invited backstage and given a great seat to watch them perform, all courtesy of these amazing artists.

I don’t normally subscribe to being overwhelmed and overawed by famous personalities, but I will admit watching this band live in concert was absolutely awesome.

In fact I would recommend to any of the readers, if you ever get the chance to watch Boyz II Men live don’t miss it.

It truly was a wonderful experience indeed.

Next week I meet up and interview one of the biggest stars currently in Hollywood, the ace comedian Kevin Hart.
