The Chancellor and Chair of the Fiji National University Mr Ikbal Jannif today announced the appointment of Professor Nigel Healey as the new Vice-Chancellor. Professor Healey’s appointment follows a comprehensive recruitment process both local and international.

“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Healey as head of the Fiji National University following a very robust and transparent recruitment process. Professor Healey is a distinguished academic, having worked in many universities around the world in different capacities; he is an accomplished researcher and has a passion of developing dual sector education.

We are confident that given his vast experience and expertise in broad academic fields he will lead FNU to greater heights,” said Mr Jannif. Professor Healey is currently Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International) and Head of the College of Business, Law and Social Sciences at Nottingham Trent University in the United Kingdom.

He has previously served as Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Dean at the College of Business and Economics at the University of Canterbury (2004-11) in New Zealand and Dean of Manchester Metropolitan University Business School in the UK (2000-04).

His current research interests are in the internationalization of higher education, transnational education and higher education policy and management. Professor Healey has served as an economic policy advisor to the Prime Minister of Belarus and the Deputy Minister of Economy of the Russian Federation and managed a number of multinational research and economic developments in different parts of the world.

Professor Healey is chair of the QS-APPLE* international academic conference committee, which organises a major international education conference each year across the region. Professor Healey holds a BA (Hons.) Economics from the University of Nottingham, an MA Economics from the University of Leeds, an MBA from the University of Warwick and DBA from the University of Bath.

He is a Chartered Manager, a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and the New Zealand Institute of Management and a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Professor Healey is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) and the Council of the Universities and Colleges Admissions Services (UCAS).

He has served as a Director for the Australia and New Zealand Academy of Management (2008-11) and the Association of Business Schools (2002-04) and was a member of the National Management Committee for the Chartered Management Institute (2002-04).

He was a member of the Universities New Zealand Committee on International Policy (2008-09). He is a citizen of New Zealand and his family is in Christchurch. Speaking of his appointment as the second Vice-Chancellor of Fiji National University, Professor Healey said, “I am honoured to have been offered the chance to lead FNU at this exciting time in its development.
