The serious impacts of two major storms were being felt yesterday.

In southern Lau, Severe Tropical Cyclone Ula was bearing down on a number of islands, blowing off roofs, uprooting trees and damaging crops. (Full story, page 3)

In Rakiraki and Tailevu searchers were still looking for three fishermen missing in separate incidents at the height of a tropical depression (TD07F).

Shivani Lata, wife of missing fisherman Rajneel Reddy, 32, says her two children desperately want to see their dad back home. Mr Reddy and cousin Nigel Mani, 32, disappeared after they went fishing to the Vatu-i-Ra Passage and were caught in sudden wild weather from TD07F on Friday.

Yakub Khan is missing in waters off the Tailevu coast.

Mrs Lata of Volivoli, Rakiraki, said: “I really hope my husband will be found  this week because the kids really miss him.

“My eldest son refuses to stay at our house because he misses his father.

“All we can do right now is pray for his safe arrival back.”

Niraj Mani, brother of Nigel Mani, said they planned to send a seaplane or a helicopter to join the search. Edited by Manasa Kalouniviti
