Konrote Presents Condolence

The President, Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konousi Konrote yesterday presented his condolence (ireguregu) at the residence of the late former Foreign Affairs Minister, Berenado Vunibobo.

The late Mr Vunibobo passed away last Monday after a short illness.

Other Government officials who presented their condolences yesterday included Foreign Affairs Minister, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Peter Thomson, former Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and other Cabinet Ministers.

The funeral mass for the late Mr Vunibobo will be held at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Suva at 10am today followed by his burial at the Suva Cemetery.

Mr Vunibobo was Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the UN from 1976 to 1980.

He played a big role in talks that led to the inclusion of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) into the UN Peacekeeping operations in 1978.

He was again posted as Fiji’s permanent representative to the UN from 2008 to 2010 under the Bainimarama Government.

The late Mr Vunibobo also served as Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Civil Aviation from 1997-1998 under the then Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka.

He is survived by his wife Luisa, five children, five grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
